Suspect in Mass. Home Depot stabbing held on $25K bail

QUINCY, Mass. (AP) - An employee of a Quincy Home Depot store charged with stabbing a co-worker has been ordered held on $25,000 cash bail.

Not guilty pleas were entered on behalf of 36-year-old Jamal Boyd of Boston at his arraignment Friday on charges including armed assault with intent to murder.

Police say what started as an altercation in an aisle at about 8 a.m. Thursday ended with Boyd stabbing 37-year-old Corey Frederick of Cambridge in the leg. Police say Frederick's femoral artery was cut. He was taken to a Boston hospital in critical condition but has since been stabilized.

Boyd allegedly fled into some woods after the stabbing but later turned himself in. A folding pocket knife was recovered.

Boyd's court-appointed attorney said Frederick was the aggressor and her client was defending himself.
