Suspect in '09 triple slaying pleads not guilty

BOSTON (AP) - A suspect in the slayings of two women and a man four years ago pleaded not guilty Monday after being returned to Boston from Trinidad.

Keron Pierre, formerly of Boston's Mattapan neighborhood, was ordered held without bail during his arraignment Monday in Suffolk Superior Court.

Pierre, 27, is accused of fleeing Massachusetts days after three people were fatally shot in a car outside a party in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood. Authorities say Pierre and the three victims argued outside the party at about 4 a.m. on March 29, 2009.

The victims were Anthony Peoples, 19, of Boston, and Shacora Gaines and Chantal Palmer, both 20, of Brockton.

Pierre was arrested on the Caribbean island of Trinidad on unrelated charges in 2010.

He pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and armed assault with intent to murder, a charge related to a fourth person who was with the other victims but was not hurt.

Pierre's lawyer, John Tardif, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Another defendant, Nigel Nichols, of Brockton, is in custody as an accessory after the fact. Prosecutors say he drove Pierre from the scene following the shooting. He pleaded not guilty in January 2010.
