Study: Customers spend an average of $40 at Panera

BOSTON — It may be fast food, but Panera doesn’t come cheap.

A new study finds people spend an average of $40 when visiting the 'fast casual' soup and sandwich shop.

At Chipotle, customers spend half that -- only $21.

Researchers say even people sitting down to eat at places like Chilis and Applebees spend less.

McDonalds had the cheapest average bill, followed by Burger King and Taco Bell.
