Study: Boston cell phone service worst among major cities

BOSTON — Boston has one of the worst cell phone networks of any major metropolitan area, according to a new study published by RootMetrics.

The company took a look at network coverage nationwide and ranked cities according to overall performance.

Out of the top 10 largest metropolitan areas in the nation, Boston came in last. In fact, Boston landed at 97 in an overall ranking of 125 major cities.

Indianapolis took the top spot with an overall score of 97.9, according to the study. Boston’s overall score clocked in at 95.3.

The study took into consideration the following categories: overall performance, network reliability, network speed, data performance, call performance and text performance.

Worcester, Massachusetts was ranked at number 124 out of 125. It had an overall score of 89.
