WEYMOUTH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Students at Weymouth High are trying to get the school's flip flop ban lifted as part of their senior project.
"We thought that it might be a good idea to try to get the ban on flip flops lifted," one student said.
For the past 10 years, flip flops and backless shoes have been banned at Weymouth High. The School Committee imposed the ban because they believe that sandals posed a safety hazard and disrupt the education process.
The students conducted a survey on 160 students and found that less than 1-percent of students have gotten an injury from flip flops.
The students went before the School Committee to present the research and it was sent to the Policy Committee. That committee was deadlocked on the issue, which means the issue will go before the School Committee again next Thursday.
