Student arrested for Haverhill High School social media threat

HAVERHILL, Mass. — Haverhill Police arrested a student overnight in connection with a social media threat.

Sources tell Boston 25 News the investigation started Thursday night. Several students received a Snapchat with a picture of of a green monster character holding a gun. The caption stated the student wanted to shoot up the school.

Methuen Police were originally informed about the social media threat.

They began to investigate - and realized the threat came from Haverhill High School.

The two police departments worked together to identify the student responsible for the threat.

The juvenile suspect was taken into custody, and school officials say there is no threat to the Haverhill High community.

Haverhill Police said there will an increased presence at the high school Friday.
