Stoughton teen sues school district over relationship with teacher

STOUGHTON, Mass. – A teenager from Stoughton is suing school administrators after a relationship with a teacher that lasted three years.

The student, who isn’t being identified because of what she went through, told Boston 25 News when she was questioned by Stoughton High School principal she was interrogated for 30 minutes and shamed.

“He pretty much stole my whole high school career, and then some,” she said.

The teen says she started having a relationship with Tim Norton in 2014 when she was 16 years old.

“I didn't have to go to gym class all of my senior year. I spent most of my time every single day in his room in school,” she said.

Often times, she says Norton wrote passes for her to skip class and hang out with him in a back room where there were no windows.

“If I stayed late for GI or something, he would always have me go in there, kiss me, another point it did get more physical than that,” she said.

In the fall of 2015, principal Juliette Miller called the teen down to her office.

“She just started hounding me with questions,” the teen said.

Richard Rafferty represents the teen in a lawsuit.

“Principal Miller should be removed or resigned immediately. She did is a classic example of shaming,” he said. “Norton is a predator. He ruined her.”

The teen, who is now 19 years old, says school officials bullied her and didn’t help her. She felt pressured to never say anything when she was questioned.

“[Norton] always told me, if this ever came to light, if he ever got in trouble, he would kill himself before he went to jail. I kind of held his life in my hand, which is why I was so terrified to ever say anything,” she said.

The teen’s relationship with Norton ended in September. She told Boston 25 News she wants her voice to be heard now because she doesn’t want anyone else to go through what she did.

The school’s superintendent said the district comment because this is a pending litigation.
