Storm knocks out power along South Shore for 2nd time this month

DUXBURY, Mass. – For the second straight week, people who live along the South Shore are in the dark after nor’easters knocked out power.

The first storm came through on March 2. It brought massive amounts of flooding and heavy wet snow that knocked down trees in power lines.

The storm this week came during astronomical low tides, but again the heavy snow it dropped cause damaged trees to fall.

"It's getting old.  It's the second storm, second power outage,” Don Carney from Duxbury said.

As of 9 p.m. Wednesday, more than 30 percent of Duxbury was without power.

"That's typical down here. There's a lot of time we don't have power and you kind of get used to it after a while,” Rich Shoemaker said.

Both storms caused trees on Bolas Road to fall, but the damage from the recent nor’easter is still blocking the neighborhood.

"It's a little bit of a nuisance having tree down and you know you can't through the street,” Shoemaker said.

One tree fell onto an SUV during Tuesday’s storm – the same vehicle was hit by a tree a week ago.

Many in Duxbury were without power for four days after last storm. Some now fear it could still be a couple more days before the lights come back on again.

"We're not getting word until the power in actually on that the power’s going to be restored, so I think they're waiting until the last moment possible before they inform us what's up,” John Eggers said.

Eversource crews have been assessing the damage, but the company has not given a timeframe for full restoration.
