Storm causes power outages, fallen trees

BOSTON — The heavy wet, snow, combine with strong winds, has caused downed limbs and power outages.

At one point, more than 100,000 residents were without power. Crews worked through the night to restore power and by 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon about 30,00 people remained without power. By 9:30 p.m., that number had dropped to nearly 11,000.

MEMA said that some scattered outages might continue into Sunday morning, but most should be restored by midnight.

Tom Miller watched a tree fall from his house across the street, hitting wires around around 9 a.m. Friday. Those wires were live, so he and his wife were trapped inside until late Saturday evening.

"It fell in slow motion, then it was a bunch of explosions and fires," said Miller.

Mike Durrand with Eversource said this type of heavy snow will bring down lines and remind people to stay away from any and all downed lines.

There are also downed trees across roads all over New England.
