SALEM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A 46-year-old Stoneham man was arrested on his second OUI charge after trying to pick up his girlfriend's child and his daughter from school on Friday.
Salem Police tell FOX 25 Thomas Gallant tried to pick up his girlfriend's child at the Horace Mann Laboratory School at about 1:30 p.m.
Faculty members said Gallant appeared to be intoxicated and was unsteady on his feet so they refused to release the child to him.
Gallant left the school, but faculty members wrote down his license plate and called police.
Meanwhile, Gallant went to the Kiddie Koop Child Care Center to pick up his 3-year-old daughter. Staff at the day care also noticed signs of intoxication and did not release the child to him.
As Gallant was leaving the day care, police officers were pulling up. A teacher pointed out Gallant's car and the officers were able to stop him.
Gallant was arrested and charged with operating under the influence. He is scheduled for arraignment in Salem District Court on Tuesday.
