STATS: Here's how our meteorological winter 2016 stacked up in Boston

BOSTON — The months of December, January and February make up METEOROLOGICAL WINTER.  Why?  Because they are the COLDEST and SNOWIEST months in New England!

Here’s how meteorological winter 2016 stacked up in Boston:

-Boston's average temperature was 5.7 degrees above average, making it the 2nd warmest winter on record

-The city set (or tied) three high temperatures records: Dec 24th (69 degrees), January 10th (58 degrees), and February 29th (64 degrees).

-Two record lows were broken, including a new record low set on February 14 of -9 which was also the coldest reading in Boston since the 50s

-25.4” snowfall was over 7” below average and an incredible contrast to last winter’s 102” record breaking snowfall.

Worcester had its 3rd warmest winter, Hartford its 2nd warmest and Providence its WAMEST winter on record!
