PLYMOUTH, Mass (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Mass. State Police trooper is facing charges amid allegations that he was drunk at the time of a fatal crash in Plymouth last weekend.

John Basler, 25, of Kingston, was cited at his home Friday with charges of operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He will also be charged with carrying a firearm while under the influence of liquor.

Susan Macchi, 64, of Carver, and her daughter, Juliet Macchi, 23, died in the head-on crash just after midnight Sunday. The elder woman, who was driving, was pronounced dead at the scene. The younger woman died at a local hospital.

Basler, who was off-duty, was transported to South Shore Hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

A Mass. State Police spokesperson said Basler, who became a trooper in March 2012, was temporarily relieved of duty after they learned Friday night that he was being cited in the crash. His license to carry was also revoked. The police department plans to hold a status hearing this week to determine whether or not Basler will be suspended while the case is adjudicated.

Basler will be delivered a summons to appear in Plymouth District Court at a later date.
