State Sen. Jack Hart reportedly leaving Legislature for law firm

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - State Sen. Jack Hart (D-South Boston) plans to submit his letter of intent to resign from the Legislature on Tuesday.

Sen. Hart told FOX 25 that he does not plan to run for the Senate seat to be made vacant by U.S. Sen. John Kerry's pending appointment as Secretary of State, nor does he have interest in the interim seat.

Sen. Hart reportedly received a job offer from Nelson Mullins and told the Boston Globe that he simply could not refuse.

"I was not interested in looking to leave at all, but this firm had approached me several weeks ago with an opportunity that was in the best interests of my wife and four children," Hart told the newspaper.

Hart's last day in the Senate will be Friday.

Hart, 51, who served as the Senate's assistant majority leader, has held the First Suffolk District seat since 2002 representing South Boston, Dorchester and Mattapan. He oversees the annual St. Patrick's Day breakfast.

Hart's departure sets up a special election that is speculated to coincide with the special election to replace Sen. Kerry, which would mean a primary on April 30 and a general election on June 25, reports the Globe.
