State Police lieutenant remembered in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Massachusetts State Police remembered the life of Lieutenant Matthew Murray on Wednesday.

Troopers from across the state attended Lieutenant Murray's funeral held at St. Mary's Church in Shrewsbury.

Lieutenant Murray passed away on Sept. 14 after a 7 ½ year battle against cancer. The 44-year-old worked in the media relations department up until summer 2011, when he transferred to the state police intelligence center. Prior to his work with media relations and the intelligence center, Lieutenant Murray was a member of the bomb squad.

The lieutenant is remembered as a major part of the Shrewsbury community and the St. John's High School community where he played hockey.

During his battle, Lieutenant Murray worked with several organizations to give inspirational speeches about living with cancer.

Matthew Murray is survived by his wife and two young sons.
