State Dems file complaint against GOP Sen. Brown

BOSTON (AP) - The Massachusetts Democratic Party has filed a complaint with the Senate Ethics Committee alleging Republican Sen. Scott Brown failed to disclose his legal clients.

The complaint points to Brown's state and federal financial reports showing he earned at least $140,000 from his law office between January 2007 and October 2009.

On a 2009 Senate financial disclosure form, Brown checked "no" when asked if he'd received compensation of more than $5,000 for a single source during that period.

Brown has refused to release a full client list, but said he worked as a title agent for Fidelity National and First American and with smaller mortgage companies and banks.

Democrats argue that it's "plainly impossible" that all of a small list of clients paid him less than $5,000.

Brown campaign officials didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
