Springfield police investigate fatal shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Springfield police are investigating the city's seventh homicide of the year.

Officers responded to an apartment in the city's Forest Park neighborhood at about 8 p.m. Tuesday after being alerted by the department's automated gunshot detection system.

There they found a man in apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say the victim, 30-year-old Fabian Pacheco, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers found oxycodone, marijuana and cocaine packaged for resale at the scene, leading investigators to believe the shooting was drug related.

There have been no arrests.
