Speaker DeLeo spent $300,000 on legal fees this year

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – State House Speaker Robert DeLeo spent $300,000 on legal fees as investigators ramp up their investigation of the state Probation Department, according to the Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

Former probation commissioner John O'Brien was acquitted earlier this year of state corruption charges, but is now facing federal bribery charges.

The indictment alleges O'Brien bribed Senate President Therese Murray and DeLeo by giving jobs to supporters in exchange for increases to the Probation Department budget.

Neither Murray nor DeLeo has been charged. DeLeo has previously said he only recommended qualified applicants for jobs at the Probation Department.
