LAWRENCE (AP)- The son of former Lawrence school superintendent Wilfredo Laboy has been sentenced to a year's probation after pleading guilty to perjury in a corruption investigation of his father.
The Essex District Attorney's office said Wilfredo Laboy II entered his plea and was sentenced Tuesday as his trial was to begin in Lawrence Superior Court.
Prosecutors said Laboy lied to a grand jury investigating his father, who was convicted of fraud and embezzlement last year. Prosecutors said the son lied about the use of school equipment to print menus for his pizza shop, and use of school employees to drive him to work after he lost his driving license.
The former superintendent was sentenced last March to 90 days in jail and a year's home confinement. Laboy was superintendent for about a decade before being fired in 2010.
