Somerset officer dies unexpectedly

SOMERSET, Mass. (AP) - The Somerset Police Department is in mourning after the unexpected death of one of its own over the weekend.

Chief Joseph Ferreira says Patrolman B.J. Voss died suddenly Saturday evening while off-duty in Warwick, R.I.

He had finished a 15-hour shift earlier in the day and was with family at the time. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No cause of death was immediately released.

Voss was 35 and had been an officer in Somerset for about two and a half years.

He leaves behind a wife and sons ages 13 and 8.

Ferreira says Voss was "an extraordinary family man and a truly dedicated hard worker."
