Some UPS packages delayed until after Christmas

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – UPS announced some very disappointing news for a lot of people hoping to have packages under the tree by Christmas. The volume of air packages in their system exceeded the capacity of their network, therefore some deliveries will be delayed until after the holiday.

UPS also reported that all of their drivers continued to make deliveries on Christmas Eve. The drivers will not be making deliveries on Christmas Day, although some employees will work tomorrow sorting and processing packages.

A UPS spokesperson said the company was overwhelmed by demand, along with the perfect storm of weather problems in some parts of the country. There was a major UPS backlog leading up to Christmas, mainly in the Dallas Fort Worth station, but that spokesperson said that shouldn't have affected the Northeast.

A company spokeswoman won't say how many packages are delayed, or specifically how many in the Boston area, but the delays are nationwide.

The company issued a statement on their website, which said that they understand the importance of holiday shipments and apologize for the inconvenience.

UPS said on any given day they deliver approximately 60 million packages, but last week alone they delivered about 130 million.

For the most-up-to date information, the company says the best thing to do is track your order on ups.com.
