BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- It's hard to stay in the holiday spirit when instead of watching loved ones unwrap the perfect gift, you have to drive to a warehouse to get it.
Some FedEx customers who didn't get their gifts in time were able to pick them up at FedEx ship centers, but there was a good amount of people that walked away empty-handed and frustrated this Christmas day.
"Here I am, and nothing," Needham resident David Seligman said outside of a FedEx ship center. "No package. No food item for my Christmas holiday and the excuse from FedEx was, ‘we had too many packages.'"
Bad weather, under-staffing and overloaded systems had FedEx apologizing to customers who were promised their packages by Christmas, but failed to get them on time.
A spokesman for the shipping giant told Fox 25 that FedEx delivered 275 million shipments between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but would only say very few were delayed.
Wellesley resident Mitchell Jacobs said he's taking the snafu in stride.
"We're just happy to get what we had ordered," he said.
Then again, he did get his package.
FedEx said they contacted the affected customers with packages available for pick-up.
