Solar panels stolen from westbound side of Route 44 in Carver

CARVER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Solar arrays used to power a treatment plant for the North Carver Water District were stolen from the westbound side of Route 44 just weeks after opening.

Carver Police Sgt. Raymond Orr told The Patriot Ledger that 23 of the 330 solar arrays were discovered missing on Monday; however, it is unclear when they were taken. Orr also said that a section of the fence had been cut to access the panels, and a truck was used to transport them.

Carver received a $150,000 federal economic stimulus grant to build the project.  It is the first solar farm to open on a major U.S. highway.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Carver Police Department at 508-866-2000.
