Smoke grenade found in Wakefield neighborhood

WAKEFIELD (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Wakefield Police say an explosive found on Wednesday night turned out to be a smoke grenade.

Police tell FOX 25 the smoke grenade was found near the intersection of Main and Salem streets and appeared to be emitting smoke.

The State Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene to investigate. They learned that the device was a spent pyrotechnic and that it did not pose a danger to the area.

An officer tells FOX 25 the device was a smoke grenade. Wakefield Police are investigating the incident. There were no injuries reported.
