Single-engine plane crashes on Plum Island, pilot reportedly uninjured

NEWBURYPORT, Mass. — The pilot of a crashed plane on Plum Island was uninjured and climbed safely out of the cockpit, according to a spokesperson for the Newburyport Fire Department.

A representative of emergency services said the plane crashed near a runway on Plum Island and as far as crews knew the pilot exited the cockpit safely.

Only the pilot was aboard the plane when it went down shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The single-engine aircraft, tail number N239AM, was registered with the FAA to the Bald Eagle Flying Club in Yarmouth, Maine.
