Shrewsbury man held after allegedly beating mother

SHREWSBURY (AP) - A Shrewsbury man has been ordered held without bailin the alleged beating of his 83-year-old mother.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said 44-year-old Sean Connollyappeared Tuesday in Westborough District Court on charges of assault andbattery. Judge Robert Calagione continued the case to Dec. 21.

The prosecutor said Paula Connolly was taken to University ofMassachusetts-Memorial Hospital in Worcester Monday night with multipleinjuries.

Early said Shrewsbury police went to the home the woman shared with her sonafter getting a report at about 10:45 p.m. that an elderly woman had beenassaulted. Police arrested her son after questioning him. They said the motherhad a bloody face and hands.

It is not immediately known who is representing Sean Connolly.

The case remains under investigation.
