Police: Sex offender followed bus of high school girls, exposed himself

WALPOLE, Mass. — A Level 3 sex offender has been arrested after allegedly following a bus of high school girls and exposing himself.

Police tell FOX25 the incident happened late Tuesday afternoon on Route 1A in Walpole near Norfolk Agricultural High School, where the girls attended.

Investigators say the suspect, Darren Grant, was following the bus as it headed to a volleyball game. Grant allegedly pulled up alongside the vehicle, exposed himself and "performed an act on himself."

A quick-thinking teen snapped a photo of Grant’s car, which helped police track him down.

Investigators say they knew exactly where to find Grant, thanks to GPS monitoring.

“Tracked that GPS bracelet back to Weymouth, sent officers down there to locate him,” Walpole Police Chief John Carmichael said.

Grant had been recently released from jail and ended up living up near the school on Chapman Street.

“I saw him a couple times and I couldn't believe they were letting him live here right next to kids,” one neighbor told FOX25.

Grant's record includes at least 18 convictions of open and gross lewdness since 1991.

“One concern is that the high school is across the street," Carmichael said. "Residents were concerned." Carmichael added that there is nothing that says Grant can't live near a high school.

Grant is being held on a $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Wrentham District Court in the morning.
