(MyFoxBoston.com) – U.S. Senate candidate Gabriel Gomez has released a scathing new attack ad, repeatedly calling his opponent "Dirty Ed Markey."
The ad is called "Something New" and takes aim at Rep. Ed Markey for "smearing" Gomez with negative ads comparing Gomez to Osama bin Laden and blaming Gomez for Newtown, Conn.
Earlier this month, Markey released a web video showing a split screen shot of both Gomez and bin Laden. The video also targeted Gomez for his position on gun control.
Gomez said Markey was blaming him for the "horrific Newtown shooting." Gomez called the ad "despicable" and urged Markey to take it down.
A Gomez campaign spokesman tells FOX 25 Markey is the one who "opened his campaign with an attack ad" and suggested Markey is hiding behind "dirty ads."
"In his latest false attack ad, Gabriel Gomez is crying foul over his own opposition to banning assault weapons and limiting high capacity magazines." said Markey campaign spokesman Andrew Zucker.
The election is June 25.
