Second person charged after woman thrown from car in Merrimac

MERRIMAC, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A second person has been charged after a woman was thrown from a car on Interstate 495 in Merrimac Sunday.

Moises Matos, 43, of Lawrence, was charged with assault and battery and assault with intent to murder. He was taken into protective custody Sunday but wasn't charged until Monday.

Police said the woman was thrown from the car as it traveled on the northbound side of the highway Sunday afternoon.

An off-duty police officer saw the incident and called state police.

Henry Matos, 45, of Lawrence, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol in connection with the incident.

The woman was not identified. Police said she was taken to Anna Jacques Hospital with serious injuries before being flown to Boston by medical helicopter. She remained in serious condition Tuesday.
