Search for missing Medford teen continues in Maine

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (MyFoxBoston.com) — The search for a Massachusetts teenager who vanished while skiing at Maine's Sugarloaf mountain is continuing.

The resort's ski patrol and law enforcement personnel are looking again today for 17-year-old Nicholas Joy of Medford, Mass. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife told FOX 25 Tuesday morning they expect to have about 100 people scouring the entire mountain.

Joy was reported missing Sunday afternoon after failing to meet with his father.

Authorities say Joy and his father split up and took separate trails from the top, and the father called for help when his son failed to meet with him.

The Sugarloaf ski patrol, game wardens and others searched in-bounds and out-of-bounds areas on skis, snowshoes and snowmobiles late Sunday afternoon and again yesterday, without finding any sign of the boy.

High winds and blowing snow are complicating the search. Family members are extremely worried.
