School administrator accused of posing as teen, soliciting photos

STONEHAM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A Stoneham Public Schools employee was arraigned on Wednesday after investigators accused him of soliciting indecent photos from a 15-year-old Maine girl.

Steven Orloff, 47, of Framingham, is facing charges that include distribution of obscene matter and pose or exhibit a child in the nude.

Investigators allege that Orloff had been posing as a 14-year-old boy during Internet conversations with a 15-year-old Maine girl. Orloff is accused of exchanging photos with the girl, but he never sent an actual photo of himself. The teenage girl reportedly sent Orloff illicit photos of herself.

Orloff is director of student services at Stoneham Public Schools. The Middlesex District Attorney says he has no direct contact with students in this role. He has been placed on administrative leave.

The 47-year-old was held on $20,000 bail at his arraignment Wednesday. A judge set bail on the conditions that Orloff commit no new crimes, refrain from using the Internet, stay away from Stoneham Public Schools, vacate his marital home, have no contact with children under 18, and surrender his passport.

Orloff will be back in court on Jan. 14 for a probable cause hearing.
