Roxbury building leveled by 7-alarm fire

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A duplex on Warren Street collapsed after a 7-alarm fire tore through the building overnight.

Fire officials said the three story building was vacant and in the early stages of renovation.

Boston fire officials tweeted the brick structure collapsed and police evacuated people living in nearby buildings. MBTA buses were brought in for residents and firefighters needing to warm up.

One nearby building suffered smoke and water damage. Four adults and one child living in that building were displaced. They're being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital, one with a shoulder injury and the other with a back injury.

The fire was under control by 5:30 a.m. Officials expected crews to continue to put water on the building throughout the morning.

Investigators were on scene Monday morning looking for what caused the blaze. They believe the fire caused an estimated $1 million in damage.
