Riders complain of long lines, wait times at South Boston bus stops

BOSTON — Angry MBTA riders in South Boston are demanding change after they say congested and unreliable buses are making them late for work.

On the east side of Southie, T riders are nearly two miles from the nearest subway. So they're forced to take bus lines that are now the focus of a new push to fix a broken system.

This week, representative Nick Collins testified before the MBTA, asking for major changes to the seven line, which runs from South Boston into Downtown.%

Anywhere from 50-100 people crowded and waiting at one of the several stops along the route has become a daily occurrence.

The buses are so packed, riders have to wait for multiple buses to pass to catch a ride.

Legislators are asking the T to build a bus depot on First Street that would centralize service and guarantee a steady stream of buses.%

They're also hoping for new, express routes into the city that would dump passengers directly at South Station.

"Taking a look at how the buses leave South Boston and enter the city is critical, and I think there's a way to shorten up some of the trips with an express line," Rep. Collins said.

T riders say they're happy to hear of changes, but worry it's not enough.

On FOX25 News at 6, Kathryn Burcham talks to riders about what is needed to actually fix the problem.
