• Ride at NH fair struck, disabled by lightning

ROCHESTER, NH (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A new ride at a fair in New Hampshire was struck by lightning Thursday, one day before the fair opened for the first time this year.

Foster's Daily Democrat reports a computer operating the Speed XXL at the Rochester Fair was hit and damaged when thunderstorms rolled through the area. The ride is worth an estimated $800,000.

"Due to the mother nature, during the recent thunderstorm the Speed XXL was impacted and will not be in operation until early next week. Sorry for the inconvenience," wrote fair organizers on their Facebook page Friday afternoon.

The thrill ride costs an additional $5 on top of the $14 paid to go on the other rides. Organizers are bringing in a replacement computer to operate the ride.

The Rochester Fair opened Friday and is scheduled to run until Sept. 22.
