JOHNSTON, R.I. (MyFoxBoston.com) – The boyfriend of a woman found dead in Johnston, R.I. has been charged in her murder and the murder of her 25-year-old daughter.
Daniel Rodriguez faces two counts of murder, burglary, kidnapping, and firearms charges for his alleged connection to the murder of 40-year-old Evelyn Burgos and 25-year-old Vanessa Perez.
Investigators say the two women were murdered at 3 Oak Tree Drive overnight Sunday. An Amber Alert was issued for Burgos' son, two-year-old Isaiah Perez, who was kidnapped from the scene of the homicide.
Isaiah was found alone wandering the streets of the Chad Brown Housing Development in Providence shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday.
Neighbors on Oak Tree Drive said they heard gunshots; however, police were remaining tight-lipped as to the manner of the deaths.
A 22-year-old man was taken into custody in Fall River at about 1 p.m. Sunday. His arrest and questioning led to Rodriguez's arrest.
Investigators announced Monday the 22-year-old was not connected to the murder or kidnapping. They dropped all charges against him.
Rodriguez was held without bail. He is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
During a press conference, officers said five people were inside the home at the time of the murders, the two adult victims and three children, including Isaiah. The other two children were unharmed. All three children remained in the custody of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families Monday.
