RI man charged with killing, dismembering mother

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (AP) - A Narragansett man has been charged with murder in the death of his mother after her dismembered remains were found in a trash bin near her apartment.

Forty-5-year-old Robert M. Taylor was arraigned overnight at Rhode Island Hospital, where he was being held in the psychiatric unit.

The Providence Journal
reports that police say Taylor had been staying with his mother, identified as Allison Taylor.

Police say her dismembered remains were found on Tuesday. Police had gone to the home to question Robert Taylor, who was a suspect in a theft from a local church. Authorities say Taylor acted strangely when police arrived and attempted to cut his wrists when they asked about his mother.

The State Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy.
