R.I. man charged in Route 495 crash that killed a child

BELLINGHAM, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 22-year-old Rhode Island man is facing charges in the single-car crash that killed a 4-year-old girl on Route 495 Friday.

Luis J. Gonzalez, of Providence, is charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failing to properly secure a child in a child restraint seat.

State Police troopers responded to the scene of the crash on Route 495 north just before exit 18 in Bellingham at about 6:30 a.m. Friday. A 2000 Honda Accord with Rhode Island registration went over the guardrail and rolled over.

The 4-year-old Providence girl was ejected from the car. She was transported to Milford Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Another passenger, 20-year-old Ilienes S. Santana, also of Providence, was taken to Milford Hospital with serious injuries.

Gonzalez was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by Mass. State Police.
