At around 5:30 p.m., Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan was driving along Grove Street when he saw a woman in a gray, two-door car driving the wrong way down the street. Behind her, a man was honking her horn and other drivers were being forced off the road to avoid colliding with her car.
Chief Ryan pulled the car over, asking the woman for her driver's license and registration. Instead of those items, she handed him a credit card and liquor store receipt for a bottle of vodka. An open bottle of vodka was sitting in the passenger seat, and Ryan said he could smell liquor on her breath.
The woman, 60-year-old Brenda Drinkwater of Revere, almost fell over when Ryan ordered her out of the car, and she failed a field sobriety test.
In addition to being charged with her seventh OUI, Drinkwater was operating negligently as to endanger, drinking from an open container while driving, and failure to keep to the right.
