REVERE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Revere residents will head to the polls on Feb. 25 to vote for the $1 billion Mohegan Sun casino proposal at Suffolk Downs, according to a recent release. The city council voted to set the date for the referendum.
The state Gaming Commission required another vote after the East Boston voters rejected and Revere voters approved the plan for a Caesars casino in November.
A campaign to gain strong support for the casino began in Revere Friday.
"The level of excitement this project is creating and the support we are getting from people all over Revere is remarkable," said CEO of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority Mitchell Etess in the release. "We're going to work hard to earn the approval of voters in the same way we are working hard to create an amazing destination and deliver a winning application to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission."
Voters will have until Feb. 25 to make their decisions about the proposal.
