Revere state lawmaker taking job at beer company

BOSTON (AP) - A Revere state lawmaker known for her advocacy of casinos in Massachusetts is stepping down to take a job at a local beer company.

Democratic Rep. Kathi-Anne Reinstein said in a statement Thursday that she has accepted a job as the government affairs manager for the Boston Beer Company, calling it "an incredible opportunity" for her family.

Reinstein, who was first elected to the Massachusetts House in 1998, represents Revere, Chelsea and Saugus. She will resign Jan. 17.

House Speaker Robert DeLeo, who appointed Reinstein to a leadership post in the House, called her "a passionate advocate" her district.

One of the issues Reinstein championed is a casino at Suffolk Downs.

Connecticut-based Mohegan Sun is hoping to develop a $1.3 billion resort on 42 acres of land owned by Suffolk Downs in Revere.
