• Revere fire chief's son arrested

LYNN (AP) - The son of Revere's fire chief, who is also a firefighter with the department, has been arrested for allegedly trying to leave a Lynn Walmart without paying for a $248 home theater system.

The Daily Item of Lynn reports that 29-year-old Kevin Doherty was arrested and charged with shoplifting over $100 on Jan. 12. He was released on personal recognizance at his Jan. 15 arraignment.

Doherty is the son of Revere Chief Eugene Doherty.

The chief says because the alleged offenses occurred when he was off-duty, the younger Doherty remains on active duty until the case is resolved.

The chief says there is "usually" some disciplinary action taken when a firefighter is arrested, but he would recuse himself from that decision and defer to the deputy chief or mayor.
