PEABODY, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A retired police officer from Peabody is facing child porn charges.

According to Salem News, 60-year-old Joseph Ferrante is scheduled for arraignment Thursday on possession and dissemination of child pornography charges.

Mass. State Police say they were initially alerted to Ferrante's alleged possession of child pornography while investigating a file-sharing service in September.

Ferrante was arrested Monday after State Police executed a search warrant at his home. Investigators allege they found video of two young boys engaging in sexual activity on his computer's hard drive.

Ferrante reportedly acknowledged to police that he had "passed by" child porn. State Police claim he admitted to searching for and viewing child pornography while using the file-sharing service, however he did not believe there was pornography on his computer.

The 60-year-old was released Monday on $5,000 bail. If convicted, he faces up to five years on the possession charge and 20 years on the dissemination charge.
