Reports: Rob Gronkowski may need back surgery

Updated:

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Rob Gronkowski's health woes are reportedly growing.

The New England Patriots tight end likely needs a fourth surgery on his left forearm and now reports are surfacing that he may need back surgery.

Gronkowski recently underwent an MRI for a back issue he had last season. He is expected to see a prominent spine specialist soon and look into having surgery that would take 10 weeks to recover from.

According to ESPN.com, a source close to Gronk said he will be fine long-term and added that he is not worried about the short-term with this surgery.

If Gronk were to have the surgery Friday, 10 weeks would fall at the end of July, when training camp would already be under way.

The reports also put a positive spin on his back health history, saying this has nothing to do with surgery he had in 2009.
