Reports: Brockton native signed by Patriots

BROCKTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Brockton's Jason Vega has reportedly signed with the New England Patriots.

Vega, who has been playing for the Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League, must be released from his current contract in order to officially sign with the Patriots.

The Boston Globe  reports an NFL source told them on Saturday that the 25-year-old defensive end/linebacker agreed to terms with the team.

Vega is a class of 2005 graduate from Brockton High School where he played both defensive end and tight end. His team won the Division 1 Super Bowl with a 22-21 win over Everett in 2004. He recorded over 200 tackles and 30 sacks during his time with the Boxers, as reported in his 2004 All-Scholastic article.

Vega went on to play at Northeastern University where he suffered several injuries during his career. Northeastern cut their football program at the end of Vega's senior year.
