Report: Gomez asked to be appointed to interim senate seat

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – One of the candidates hoping to get the Republican nod for the senate seat left vacant by now Secretary of State John Kerry reportedly asked Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick for the interim senate gig.

Gabriel Gomez told the Boston Globe that he wanted to give the governor a chance to "appoint a new face" to the senate.

The Cohasset businessman and former Navy SEAL is now seeking the full-time senate seat.

The Globe also reported that Gomez donated to Pres. Barack Obama's campaign in 2008 and to liberal senate candidate Alan Khazei in 2009.

Gomez has until the end of next week to get 10,000 signatures required to get his name on the ballot.

State Rep. Daniel Winslow has announced he is in the race for the Republican nomination. Former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan said he will run as long as he receives the required number of certified signatures.
