BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Robert Kraft divulged bizarre details this week of his 2005 meeting with Vladimir Putin that resulted in the Russian president walking off with the Patriots owner's Super Bowl ring.
The New York Post reports Kraft explained the incident during a meeting in St. Petersburg this week. Kraft reportedly said he took the ring off to show Putin. He reportedly said the Russian president put it on and said, "I can kill someone with this ring," before putting the ring in his pocket and walking away.
Shortly after the incident, Kraft released a statement saying he gave the ring, which carried an estimated value of $25,000, to Putin as a "symbol of the respect and admiration that I have for the Russian people and leadership."
The Post claims Kraft received a phone call from the Bush administration saying it would be in the best interest of U.S.-Russian relations to give the ring as a present.
According to the newspaper, the ring currently resides in the library at the Kremlin.
