Mother charged with murder for apparent stabbing deaths of 2 sons

BROCKTON, Mass. -- A woman from Brockton is accused of stabbing and murdering her two sons in their apartment over the weekend.

According to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz, emergency responders were called to the third-floor apartment at 247 Prospect St. just after noon on Monday.

When they arrived, the found the 8-year-old and 5-year-old brothers were dead and had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Sanders made statements that could be construed as admissions to this crime to the investigators," DA Cruz said.

The children had been last seen alive on Saturday, according to Cruz, and they could have possibly been killed shortly after, up to 48 hours before they were discovered.

The boys are not being named but investigators said their mother, Latarsha Sanders, has been arrested and charged with their murders.

“All crime scenes are grizzly, but these were two innocent children. This was a gruesome, disturbing and heartbreaking crime,” Cruz said.

Police have not been able to conduct a thorough search of the apartment, but are seeking a warrant to do so.

“At this time we believe she acted alone, and we believe that there is no risk to the general public,” Cruz said.

Neighbors told Boston 25 News that Sanders has at least one other child, but that child may not have been home when the brothers were killed.

Sanders, 43, is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday, more details are expected to be released at that time. The motive for the murders is unclear, Cruz said.

“They’re gone but they’re not forgotten she’s always going to remember that,” neighbor William Glass said.
