Repeat OUI offender reportedly causes head-on crash in Worcester

WORCESTER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A 65-year-old Charlton man was arrested for operating under the influence following a head-on crash that occurred in the area of 157 Millbrook Street on Wednesday afternoon.

Michael Shea, of 49 Sturbridge Road, is facing a multitude of charges, including OUI (3rd offense), operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, and operating a motor vehicle so as to endanger, for the crash which occurred around 12:32 p.m.

Shea was admitted to a local hospital following the crash for injuries to his back, legs, and chest. He is in serious, but stable condition.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Worcester resident, was also admitted to the hospital with a serious leg injury. He is also in serious, but stable condition.

According to police, Shea's vehicle, a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, was traveling in the opposite direction of the victim's Toyota on Millbrook Street. As the Toyota approached the curve by Merton Street, the Jeep crossed over the centerline and struck the Toyota head-on.

Rescue crews arrived within minutes of the crash and had to remove both drivers from their vehicles. There were no passengers in either car.

Witnesses told police Shea was traveling at a high rate of speed.
