Rep. Markey responds to Sen. Brown attack

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Rep. Edward Markey is firing back at Scott Brown after the outgoing senator questioned how much time the Malden Democrat spends in Massachusetts.

"Scott Brown has not yet announced that he is running for Senate, but he is already launching false, personal attacks from the sidelines," reads a statement from Markey Spokesperson Giselle Barry."Ed Markey lives in Malden, and has lived there his entire life. He and his wife own their home in Malden. He is proud to come from and represent the values of the people of Malden. This campaign should be about what matters most to the people of Massachusetts: jobs, education, health care and the environment."

Brown, who lost his re-election battle in 2012 to Elizabeth Warren, hasn't said whether he'll run for John Kerry's Senate seat, but he's already taking a shot at a possible Democratic rival. Markey has said he'll run for Kerry's seat if Kerry is confirmed as secretary of state.

Speaking on WTKK-FM Wednesday, Brown said Democrats are making it tempting for him to run again, pointing to Markey and asking "Does he even live here?"

Markey maintains his boyhood home in Malden, but spends much of his time in Washington and owns a home in Maryland.

Brown said he has been flying home from Washington every weekend for nearly three years and has never seen Markey on an airplane.
