Remains confirmed as Maine boatbuilding students

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (AP) -- The Maine medical examiner's office says human remains found on an island off Kennebunkport were two boatbuilding school students who went missing in December.

Spokesman Mark Belserene said Tuesday that DNA tests confirmed the remains were 21-year-old Zachary Wells of Burlington, Vt., and 23-year-old Prescott Wright of Barnstable, Mass.

Wells and Wright were last seen at a late-night party at Wells' home in Kennebunkport on Dec. 20. The men were students at The Landing School in Arundel.

In the ensuing search, officials found clothing belonging to the two men but didn't locate their bodies.

A local resident walking a dog discovered the remains last month on Vaughn's Island, which can be reached from the mainland at low tide.
