Reggie Cummings, possible person of interest in burned body case, in court

HAVERHILL, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- We got our first look at Reggie Cummings as he faced a judge in court Tuesday, after he was brought back to Massachusetts on a fugitive warrant from California.

FOX 25 was the first to report, according to our sources, that Cummings is a person of interest in that murder case from last month where burnt limbs and other body parts were discovered on the grounds of the Bridgewater State Psychiatric Hospital, and, later, a torched torso was found in Hyde Park. Investigators say the remains belong to 24-year-old Dennis Jackson, who shared a Salisbury condo with Cummings.

But Cummings wasn't in district court for the burnt human remains case, instead for a number of unrelated allegations of drugs and destroying property.

Cummings was recently arrested while trying to enter San Diego from Mexico and authorities held him on unrelated warrants.

Tuesday he was back in Mass., in conjunction with those warrants, for a violation of probation hearing for an April 2012 charge of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Cummings also has an open case from 2012 for a malicious destruction of property charge after he allegedly held a house party at a recording studio in Haverhill. Court documents estimate that more than $16,000 worth of damage was done to that building.

In court the attorney's reviewed the charges against Cummings and explained he's been failing to appear in court and cooperate with the court for quite some time.

Cummings has not been charged in Jackson's death, although sources tell FOX 25 he is a person of interest. The Essex County District Attorney's office would not say Tuesday if they're close to making an arrest in that murder case.
